Body and Design

The Canon Vixia HF R500’s body is no different from its predecessors, sporting the similar look that every Canon user knows and loves. It’s got a touch screen that is able to flip, as well as settings that can easily be understood by beginners to advanced users alike. The only problem is the fact that you will have to use the touch screen to set your options, which can be a hinder for those with bigger fingers. Other than that, it’s portable and lightweight, making it very easy to bring anywhere.

Video Quality

You would expect that 3.28 megapixels won’t pack a punch, but that’s where you are wrong. It is able to produce high quality videos in vivid colors. Also, you will be able to zoom in 57x and has an image stabilizer, so no matter what you’re shooting or how close it is, it won’t be shaky! You can even choose from a number of modes when taking videos, such as the cinema-look filter or advanced baby mode.

When it comes to storage, you will be able to shoot a 2 hour video on its highest quality setting on a 32GB SD card. That being said, you will be able to store more videos and snapshots when in lower quality and time of videos.

It’s best to use under sunlight and can also produce quality videos when in a studio with good lighting. Otherwise, the manual mode will be able to have you produce well-lit videos in any background.

User-Friendliness

It hasn’t got any Wi-Fi option or built-in storage, but it sure is user friendly and easy to understand. Though like mentioned, the touch screen can be a hinder, it still is a great touch of advanced technology by Canon.

As for battery life, it’s a bit short, taking less than an hour to run out. But, you will be able to shoot while it’s plugged into an AC outlet, though it won’t be charging while being used.

Price

For a price of about $233 that includes almost everything and batteries (no SD card!), it’s a pretty fair price considering it’s a Canon camcorder that takes quality videos.

Basically, this is something that is recommended for beginners, with its easy to use interface and high definition results. If you want to search for sample videos, then you’ll be able to find various users post theirs on Youtube, where you can be the judge.
